The Egypt electronic or e-visa is designed to make the travel permit obtaining process fast-paced and modern. Entering Egypt for a short visit has become easier than before as there’s no need to stand in queues waiting for a visa on arrival or book appointments at the Egypt consulate or embassy. All you do is complete and submit an online Egypt visa application form, upload required documents’ scans, and pay the visa fees online. It only takes fifteen minutes to complete the visa application process without involving traveling expenses or other hassles.
Egyptian e-visa is available for tourism purposes. It is available as a single-entry authorization allowing foreign travelers to arrive and stay in Egypt for a maximum duration of thirty days. The single-entry visa is valid for 90 days with a stay validity of 30 days. You can also apply for a multiple-entry visa in which you can repeatedly arrive in Egypt over 180 days. But you must not stay for more than thirty days on each visit.
The Egypt e-visa is available for short trips and has a validity of 90 to 180 days. But there’s always a possibility that your travel plans change at the last minute. In such a situation, you can use the option of Egypt e-visa extension and plan your travel at your convenience. Egypt e-visa extension option is available for tourist visa holders. They can extend their e-visas in two different ways:
If your e-visa is about to expire, you may leave Egypt and apply for a new visa from your home country or anywhere in the world and return to Egypt once you receive it. This is the quickest way to get a visa extension and re-enter Egypt. Since the e-visa processing doesn’t take too long and the max you have to wait is for 3 days, this is the best way to obtain a new e-visa. It is worth noting that there’s no limit to applying for the number of e-visas for a specific foreign traveler. As long as the applicant is eligible to obtain an e-visa and meets the Egyptian government’s terms and conditions, they can apply for the e-visa as often as they want.
In case you are wondering how to renew your Egypt tourist e-visa, please be informed that it is a straightforward process. You will complete the e-visa application form, answer security-related questions, and select the visa type (single or multiple entry visas). The next step is paying the e-visa fees using a valid debit or credit card. The last step is uploading your scan passport bio page, and that’s about it.
Documents Needed for E-visa Renewal
To renew your e-visa from outside of Egypt, you will need:
The second way to ensure a visa extension is by renewing your e-visa while remaining in Egypt. However, please remember that this process cannot be completed online, and you need to visit the relevant department in person to get your e-visa extended or renewed. The Egyptian Passports, Immigration, and Nationality Administration office is where you will visit and submit the visa renewal application. It is located in the Police Academy, Abbasiya, Cairo. You can visit the office between 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily except for Friday, and Saturday is dedicated to pickups. Or you can visit the Mugamma Building located in Tahrir Square, Cairo. It is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
You will need the following documents to apply for an e-visa extension by visiting the concerned department in person.
Usually, applicants need to visit the office twice. The first time, they fill out the e-visa application form in person and submit the required documents, including a photograph and fee payment. They will also get their biometrics done on the first visit. On your second visit, typically the next day of your first visit, you will pay visa processing fees before getting the visa extension.
You will receive a visa extension for three more months, and no other validity is available. The e-visa extension is called Foreign Residence Card. It will be issued in the form of a plastic card.
It is never a good idea to overstay your visa no matter which country you visit; the laws in Egypt are no different. If you overstay your visa, you will break the specific visa’s terms and conditions as well as the country’s immigration and visa policies. This can lead to drastic consequences such as a fine or travel ban. If the government decides to ban you from entering Egypt, you will not be able to get a travel permit in the future or as long as the ban stays. Therefore, if you realize your visa is about to expire, contact the relevant authorities quickly.
Overstaying your e-visa in Egypt can result in a fine. The amount you need to pay depends on the duration of visa expiration and the length of time you have overstayed in Egypt. Generally, if a traveler overstays for two weeks, no fine is imposed on the traveler. On the other hand, overstaying your visa for up to three months will result in a USD 100 penalty. If you overstayed for over three months, you would be charged accordingly.
The fines will be paid at the airport when you leave Egypt. This could take some time as the airports are busy areas, so you might need to wait for your turn in the queue. Therefore, we suggest you arrive at the airport well ahead of your flight so that you have enough time to pay the fine, clear customs and other security procedures, and board the plane on time.
The applicant will have to complete an online visa application form and provide a clear scan of their valid passport’s biography page. In some situations, the traveler may have to give a scan of the passport’s last page and a digital copy of their passport-size photograph.
It is an electronically obtained travel authorization using which foreign travelers can enter and stay in Egypt for touristic purposes. Keep in mind that the tourist e-visa allows travelers to visit the country for tourism and does not allow them to seek employment or work in Egypt. They also cannot engage in business activities or enroll in an educational institution. There are separate visas for these purposes. Tourist e-visa is only available for sightseeing and visiting the sites of your choice.
If you are applying for the e-visa renewal, do not worry, as it doesn’t take any longer than the original e-visa process. You can quickly obtain it within 3 to 5 business days. If you need it earlier, please select the urgent visa option to receive the e-visa within 48 hours.
Citizens of nine countries can enter Egypt without a visa and stay for some time. This includes Hong Kong, Bahrain, Macao, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates.
