Egypt Delays Entry Measures for Canadians

New Entry Requirements

Pre-Arranged Visit Visa

Canadian travelers to Egypt will need to obtain a pre-arranged visit visa from an Egyptian consular post before embarking on their journey. It's important to note that this process can take up to five business days to complete.

Options for Dual Nationals

Dual nationals of both Canada and Egypt have two additional options for entry into Egypt:

• Free Visa: Dual nationals can obtain a free visa from an Egyptian consular post prior to their entry into Egypt. To qualify for this option, applicants must provide proof of their Egyptian nationality. Acceptable forms of proof include a birth certificate, Egyptian national identification document, or an Egyptian passport (even if expired).
• Visa-On-Arrival: Alternatively, dual nationals can opt for a visa-on-arrival upon arrival in Egypt. However, this option comes with a fee of USD. Prior to traveling to Egypt, applicants choosing this method must secure a certificate from an Egyptian consular post that verifies their Egyptian nationality. The exact process and timeframes for obtaining this certificate have not been clearly defined by the government.

Business and Work Travel

It's important to be aware that, starting from October 1, 2023, Canadians traveling to Egypt for business or short-term work purposes must adhere to the new entry requirements outlined above. Additionally, they will need to obtain a short-term work authorization from the Ministry of Manpower, in accordance with the existing practice.
